Choose two or three suppliers, give each the same requirements, ask for a live demo and a written three-year cost breakdown. Compare what each offer includes before interpreting its headline price.
Start with published UK-market options
The providers below are illustrative UK-market options to investigate. They are not a complete list, not ranked, and not confirmed participants in EPOS Buyer's enquiry process. EPOS Direct is the only provider linked in this table as an editorial feature; that is not a higher rating, supplier verification or guaranteed quote opportunity.
| Provider | Published starting point | Official page |
|---|---|---|
| Clover | Payments and POS products | — |
| Epos Now | Retail and hospitality POS | — |
| EPOS Direct | Retail and hospitality solutions | Visit homepage |
| Shopify POS | In-store and online commerce | — |
| Square | Point-of-sale products | — |
| SumUp | Payments and POS products | — |
Use one scorecard for every demonstration
Write down whether the supplier demonstrated each requirement, merely said it was available, or confirmed it was not supported. Put the exact licence tier beside every feature. Score your own requirements rather than accepting a score assigned by a comparison site.
- Sector workflow: a real sale, refund and end-of-day close, plus your sector's harder task.
- Hardware and resilience: required devices, offline behaviour and repair/replacement terms.
- Payments: card-present and online rates, fixed fees, settlement time and processor choice.
- Data: stock or menu import, accounting links, reporting exports and exit portability.
- Support: hours, channels, training, migration and escalation.
- Contract: total three-year cost, renewal, cancellation, ownership and VAT.
Make the quote decision, not the brand decision
Ask every shortlisted supplier for the same configuration and period. If one requires a different payment processor, compare the resulting processing cost, not only the software subscription. If one can demonstrate a critical workflow and another cannot, that difference is more useful than an invented star rating.
EPOS Buyer currently records enquiries for review; it does not automatically fetch supplier prices or run an AI ranking. We will not describe a provider as “verified” until a real, published verification process has been completed.

EPOS Direct describes its own products; check current features, offers and terms before buying.
Providers are illustrative market examples, not a paid ranking, confirmed partner roster or product test. Check demonstrations, pricing and contract terms with each supplier.
